If you’re anything like me and have been mentally planning your dream vacation to the infamous Greek island, Santorini, but don’t have thousands of dollars to drop, then this is your guide. As a broke college student, I know that activities are the last thing I’m going to budget for when traveling internationally. My philosophy is to spend as little money as possible. That being said, here are my top 5 activities to do in Santorini for either free or fairly inexpensive.
1. Hike from Fira to Oia (or vice versa). FREE (+bus fare)
If you’re unfamiliar with Santorini’s geography, you most likely will be staying in the two most popular towns, Fira and Oia. The island is in the shape of a crescent with Fira being in the middle and Oia on the northern point. Between the two, there is a beautiful hiking trail (approximately 6 miles or 10 kilometers) that gives you a full tour of Santorini’s northern coastline. This activity, of course, is for those that are more active, enjoy spending time in nature, and avoiding touristy locations. There are churches and multiple lookout points along the way, which make for great pictures and still allow you to avoid the crowds in busy summer months. Most people report that the hike takes them anywhere between 3–5 hours, making it a great morning activity while it’s still cool out…
